My identity can't be verified

What to do if Stripe can't confirm your personal details.

Stripe automatically checks your name, date of birth and address. If that doesn't work, you'll see "We couldn't match this personal information based on the information you provided". That doesn't mean something is wrong with you. Stripe just needs some extra proof.

1. Check for typos first

Sometimes the verification issue is due to a mismatch or a typo in the information provided. Stripe shows your name, date of birth and phone number.

  • Something wrong? Click Edit information and correct it.

  • Did you enter your nickname instead of your official first name? Correct that too.

  • Everything correct? Click This is correct.

2. Verify your identity

For this it need your ID. Choose your document; Stripe accepts a passport, driving licence, national ID card, residence permit or Dutch foreign national document (vreemdelingendocument).

3. Take the photos

Stripe opens a screen where you take the photos with your phone.

  • Place your document on a dark, plain surface.

  • Make sure there's good light and no glare.

  • Make sure the whole document is visible, all four corners.

  • Don't use an expired document.

  • The name and date of birth on your document must exactly match what you entered.

4. Wait for the check

You'll see "We're still verifying your information. This typically takes 24 hours." You can simply click Continue and finish the rest of the form.
